A Great Accomplishment

First of all I’m really glad that I’ve already finished my persuasive speech. Well, English two is one of my favorite subjects because this subject helped me to boost my confidence and it challenged me to ensure my speech will be captivating to my audience as well as worth their time and attention.

For me informative speech is easier to deliver than persuasive speech. Because in informative speech I will inform them with useful information that is unique and interesting but in persuasive speech I need to make others believe that what I’m saying is totally true. Sometimes audience may think that is utterly impossible; nevertheless, I have to make them change their mind by using all my strategies, so that my audience will believe that I’m right.

The right things that I did are I used the proper body language, I speak with conviction, I maintained sincere eye contact with my audience, and I did my best to respond to their reactions and questions. Well the area that I should improve is to not easily distract whenever my audience laugh and comment while I’m delivering my speech.

A well-organized presentation makes me remember what I want to talk about, it enhances my credibility and also it makes easier for the audience to follow me. That’s why before I deliver my speech I organized my presentation very well. While I’m researching for my speech I realized that I should not only stick to what I know but being a great speaker I should research more so I can gain more knowledge. I practice and rehearse my speech at home and when I’m presenting in front of an audience I always put in my mind that I’m performing as an actress. I dress appropriately and I always try my best to look pleasant, confident, and proud.

So I made a short list of personal resolutions to improve my communication skills. The first one is if I made an error I will not make an excuse anymore instead I will correct it and continue. Next is to maintain sincere eye contact with my audience so I can make everyone feel involved. And lastly I should always put in my mind that I’m not only delivering a speech just because of the sake of my grades and it is a requirement but it is a way to express what I want to say, to share some new ideas and it’s a great way to make people united.

That’s all! Thank you and God bless.

I Believe I can!

Topic: Organ Donation

Thesis Statement: I want to persuade my audience to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to act upon their decision to donate because the need is constantly growing for organ donors and it is very simple to be an organ donor when you die.

I. ATTENTION:

Credibility Material: How do you feel when you have to wait for something you really, really want? What if it was something you couldn’t live without?

Tie to the audience: One of the people on the waiting list for an organ transplant might be someone you know. Today I’d like to talk to you about first, the need for organ donors in our area, second, how you can become an organ donor after you die, and finally, how your family and organ donor recipients benefit from your donation.

II. NEED/PROBLEM:

A. People around the world need organ transplants and they need our help.
1. The need is many organs and tissues such as the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, corneas, bone, skin, heart valves, and blood vessels.

B. A new name is added to the national waiting list every 16 minutes. That means that 3 people will be added to the list during the time we are in class today. The problem is that 10 people will die each day waiting for an organ transplant.

C. How can I make sure my organs are donated after I die?

III. SATISFACTION:
- Organ donation benefits both the donor’s family and the recipients.
If you do donate your organs, your family and the people who receive your organs might benefit in a similar way like this family.

Organ donation is very important.
- The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ donation.

"Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby’s face or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain… Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk…Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window

IV. VISUALIZATION:

- Sometimes the only cure for someone suffering and dying is to receive a new organ. Hearts, livers, lungs, skin, corneas and other organs are harvested from those who have just passed away. Those vital organs are put into the bodies of the living. Many will perish before they get one. Many will get a second chance at life.

- Someone who will surely die receives a new organ and has a chance at life. Under some circumstances, one death might result in the continued life of several people. Depending on the conditions at death and the proximity to a major medical center, many organs could be harvested from the same body.

V. ACTION (S):
- You can choose to donate any needed organs or you can specify which organs or tissues you wish to donate.

- This is how you go about making sure your organs are donated. Talk with your family about your decision. They will be involved in the donation arrangements when you die. If they do not know your wishes of becoming a donor, your wishes may never be carried out.

VI. CONCLUSION:

As you can easily see, donating your organs can be one of the most important decisions you ever make and also the greatest gift you could ever give.

I’ve told you about the need for organ donors in our area, how you can become an organ donor after you die, and finally, how your family and organ recipients benefit from your donation. You become a donor by talking to your family and making sure they know you want to be a donor, fill out and sign a donor card, and indicate your wishes on your driver’s license.

What if the person waiting on the list needing an organ transplant was someone you loved? Imagine if you had a brother or sister who had unexpectedly died and you were able to meet the person who received their heart, for example. Think of the satisfaction and possible comfort knowing that your brother or sister provided life for somebody else.

I’m going to leave you with a short message from Michael Jordan who is a sponsor for the Iowa Life Gift Coalition on Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness and appears in their 1996 brochure. "Please make the decision to become an organ and tissue donor. Remember: Share your life. Share your decision."

Finally I'm done with my Informative Speech :)

Well I was surprised because I finished my speech on time and my audience participate very well. And I admit it, while im delivering my speech I felt nervous and I started to sweat a lot. But luckily I know my speech very well because I memorized it. This is a comfortable way for me to deliver my speech because I memorize easily.

Okay, I have one thing that I will reveal, when im delivering a speech I always imagine that my audience are my stuff toys. Well this is weird but it helps me a lot to boost my confidence.

The thing that I like when im delivering my speech is that I don’t read a lot, I mean reading a lot of cue cards or script etc. Because I noticed that if I always read my presentation, audience will easily get bored. And the thing that I need to improve is sweating a lot. Because for me it’s a sign that im really nervous and it makes me uncomfortable.

My informative speech was about the Bermuda Triangle, and I picked 3 questions that my classmates twitted to me and here are the questions I picked:

The first question is “If given a chance would you try going and studying bermuda triangle yourself?” from Jan Margarette Vasquez.

Yes, I will grab the opportunity to go there and to study the Bermuda triangle because until now I’m not yet satisfied of the things that I have been researched. I know that it is a great mystery and no one until now can explain what is really going on. And I have a dream and that is to become the first person to prove of what is the real cause of the disappearances.

The next question is “is it 100% proven that when you go there, you will not survive?” from Joshua “Jobok” Teodosio.

No because each day a large number of ships and aeroplanes also pass unharmed through that area, it’s very unpredictable.

The last question is “Would you like to go to bermuda triangle?” from Angela Sophia Almendrala.

Yes I would like to go to Bermuda triangle because I want to see it personally though I’m quite scared of that area. I want to know why those accident, missing planes or ships are missing without any trace. And if given a chance at least I want to find some of skeleton from the victims in the deep sea at Bermuda or some crashing part from accident of the plane or ship.

That's all thank you :)

Topic that will surprise my audience!

Okay, at first I’m having a hard time choosing a good topic that will make my audience listen from the start until I finish my speech. I asked myself of what do I love to talk about, do I have the resources necessary to obtain sufficient data and I keep thinking for how many hours until I have decided that my topic is about my country Philippines. Well, the title of my informative speech is “Land of the morning: Philippines”. Since my speech is obviously about the Philippines, I will be talking about what makes the Filipinos unique and special, some problems and issues of the Filipinos and how Filipinos use their voice in trading goods.

Without the audience the speech will become useless, so it means that they are very important and it is imperative that we should analyze our audience. My audience are college students and their ages are ranging from 16-20 years old. Also my audience are combination of male and female. Though my audience are taking up different courses, I’m sure that my topic will sync in to their minds and I can get their attention because if I share my experience and knowledge people will listen. The venue of our public speaking will be held in classroom at around 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Since all of my audience are Filipino they can relate easily to my topic. Audiences will judge a speech based on what they already know and believe.

My speech can help the audience to know more about the Philippines. Nowadays, Filipinos are facing some serious problem that can affect our self confidence. I would like to encourage them to help each other to be more proud in our own country and be an active citizen. I would like to encourage the youth to love their country so they will have respect someday as a citizen. This is the best way to set a positive example. So I hope that my speech will inspire them.

That’s all! Thank you and God Bless.

Stand up and speak

Our professor in English two conducted a discussion about nervousness, and that topic caught my attention because it can help us to amend our skills in public speaking. Even though I can say that I'm a good example of someone who can conquer the fear of public speaking. Sometimes I felt so nervous and I don’t know why. So after the discussion I realized that it is a big help if you know how to get rid of nervousness. It helps me to find a way to overcome my nervousness, ways how to identify a person if he/she is nervous, and how to determine my weaknesses and strengths. So in that way I can ascertain which things I need to improve.

Public speaking for me is very important because in that way you can express and share your thoughts and knowledge in front of many people, and it can also makes you recognize and be successful. So I have some tips that can help you to overcome your nervousness. First of all act confident so you will look confident, in that way it can help you to get the attention of the audience and convince them that you are very prepared. Second is be prepared always, it can lessened the tension and you can concentrate. And redefine your audience, like for example treat them as your friends so you can feel the support you need. Don’t hesitate to stand up and speak, and just keep talking in public and in no time you can see yourself as a good public speaker.

The possible topics for my informative speech are about why Filipinos are very unique, since I’m a proud Filipino, I can easily share some qualities that makes a Filipino unique. And how the students manage their allowance since my course is operations management I’m very interested of how students handle their money.

That’s all! Thank you and have a nice day.
